AD-18/CF-2512 — Center-Fed Mobile VHF/UHF Antenna

Interested in learning more about this product?

Overview

The AD-18/CF-2512 is a center-fed mobile VHF/UHF dipole antenna operating from 20 to 512 MHz. Designed for heavy-duty ground vehicle applications, it features a ground-plane-independent architecture and offers an optional integrated GPS receiver.

Technical Summary

  • Frequency Range: 20-512 MHz (VHF/UHF)
  • Power Handling: 100 W CW maximum
  • Polarization: Linear Vertical (VHF/UHF), RHCP (optional GPS)
  • Radiation Pattern: Omnidirectional
  • Passive Gain: < 0 dB to 0 dB
  • GPS LNA Gain: 20-26 dB (optional)

Operational Use Cases

  • Tactical communication on heavy-duty ground vehicles
  • Positioning and navigation via optional GPS integration
  • Fixed-site mast deployments for wideband VHF/UHF coverage

Deployment Environments

Constructed from composite materials, aluminum, and durable plastics, the antenna is designed to deliver outstanding strength in harsh conditions. It meets strict MIL-STD-810G environmental standards and features a large stainless steel spring to absorb shocks and vibrations during heavy-duty mobile operations.

Performance Metrics

The ground-independent dipole design ensures consistent gain and VSWR regardless of the mounting surface. The passive VHF/UHF elements provide gain up to 0 dB and handle up to 100 W CW, while the optional integrated GPS Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) yields 20-26 dB of gain.

Setup & Portability

Because the antenna is a center-fed dipole, it requires no ground plane for installation. The standard vehicle base uses a NATO standard four-hole mounting pattern equally spaced on a 4.5-inch circle. An optional mast base featuring two stainless steel joints and a hard polyester tube allows installation on poles up to 60 mm in diameter.

Compatibility

Compatible with standard NATO 4.5-inch circular 4-hole mounts. The system can be configured with optional integrated GPS L1 or GPS L1/L2 capability depending on navigation requirements.

FAQs

  • How does a dipole antenna differ from a monopole in ground plane dependence? A monopole requires a conductive ground plane to form an image antenna, whereas a dipole is ground-independent and provides consistent radiation characteristics without relying on the mounting surface.
  • What factors dictate the selection of a tactical omnidirectional antenna? Selection requires verifying transmit power limits, maximum tolerable VSWR, frequency range, and the mounting platform to ensure equipment survival and limit reflected power.
  • What is AD-18/CF-2512 — Center-Fed Mobile VHF/UHF Antenna used for? AD-18/CF-2512 — Center-Fed Mobile VHF/UHF Antenna is categorized as Omni Antenna. Listed applications include Positioning, Tactical Communication.
  • Problems we solve: how do we narrow antenna choices? Balancing operating bands, coverage needs and mounting space can make antenna selection difficult. Share those constraints with Cyntony to compare candidate antennas and identify what needs manufacturer confirmation (Our process).
  • Outcomes we deliver: what did Cyntony's tactical-link field test establish? Cyntony's 2025 XTND-DIRECT field test showed how terrain, antenna height and clearance affected a specific mesh-radio link. The result informs deployment questions; it does not establish range, throughput or suitability for this product (Field-test account).

Video Notes

A short video demonstrating the flex of the heavy-duty spring base and detailing the NATO 4-hole and mast mounting options would assist hardware integrators in verifying mechanical fit.
